The Department of Public Service provides unique opportunities for staff to grow, develop and build a career with DPS.

Staff have opportunities to develop their skills by participating in a wide range of training and development opportunities, including mentoring, rotation, leadership development programs, and others. Staff may also be eligible for tuition reimbursement for relevant coursework.

The Department provides many career advancement opportunities for staff. Opportunities for promotion or transfer are posted, and all eligible staff are encouraged to apply.

Utility Engineering Specialists

Typically, Utility Engineering Specialists join the Department at the entry level in a Utility Engineering Specialist 1, Salary Grade 18, position. Utility Engineering Specialists 1 seeking to grow their careers may take promotional exams that allow them to be considered for advancement to the Salary Grade 23 and Salary Grade 27 levels, as well as beyond.
