Natural Gas

Natural Gas Information

Natural Gas is a vital component of the world's supply of energy. It is used in our homes to fuel stoves, water heaters, dryers, furnaces and other appliances. It is used by industry to create a variety of products like plastics, steel and clothing. More factories and electric generating plants are using natural gas because it produces fewer emissions than coal or fuel oil.

DPS staff is responsible for overseeing the operations of natural gas utilities under Commission jurisdiction to ensure that they provide safe and adequate service at fair and reasonable rates.

Below we include information about the natural gas utilities regulated by the PSC, the Energy Service Companies (ESCOs) that supply gas to New York consumers, Commission programs and initiatives regarding the State's supply of gas and guides to help consumers make informed choices about their utility.
