On January 5, 2024, the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) filed a report entitled “NYSun Program: Impacts of the Inflation Reduction Act and the Potential for Incremental Distributed Solar Capacity Beyond the 10 GW Goal” (Report). The Report, submitted in compliance with the Public Service Commission’s (Commission) Order Adopting NYSun Mid-Program Modifications, issued on June 23, 2023, details (1) the federal guidance that has been issued to-date on the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022, its impacts on the NY-Sun program, and NY-Sun program adaptations that have been and will be undertaken in response to that guidance, and (2) the incremental distributed solar capacity beyond the existing NYSun program target of 10 gigawatts (GW) that could be procured within the existing budget authorized for the NY-Sun program.
In the Report, NYSERDA, among other things, requested Commission approval to spend approximately $346 million in surplus NY-Sun funding to support the attainment of incremental solar capacity beyond 10 GW, to benefit Low to Moderate Income (LMI) New Yorkers and residents of Disadvantaged Communities through the NY-Sun Solar Energy Equity Framework.
PLEASE TAKE NOTICE that interested stakeholders are invited to respond to the questions, prepared by Department of Public staff (Staff) and attached to the above notice, by October 31, 2024.
